Which PDFs work?
Most cross-stitch PDFs made with charting software work, because Stitched Off reads the grid and the legend from the page's own drawing. When you open one, the five setup steps show you what was read, so you can check it before you stitch. See The five setup steps.
Can it read a scanned or image-only PDF?
Not yet. A scanned or image-only PDF has no drawing for Stitched Off to read the grid and legend from, so it tells you before opening it rather than guessing.
What about password-protected PDFs?
If a PDF needs a password to open, Stitched Off can't read it, and says so before opening it. If you bought the chart, ask the designer or shop for a copy without a password.
Can I use paper or book charts?
Not yet. Stitched Off works with PDF charts. Importing a photo or scan of a paper chart is something we'd like to add, but it isn't in the app today.
My chart read wrongly. What now?
Every read is shown to you in the setup steps before you stitch, and you can fix it there: tap a grid's four corners or set its size, and correct any thread in the legend by hand. See Fix a grid and Fix the legend. If it still won't read, tell us — there's no need to send the chart.
Does my progress include backstitch, knots and beads?
Yes. Each backstitch unit, long stitch, French knot and bead counts as one stitch, the same as a cross stitch. They are all in your percentage and your stitches-left count. See Statistics and history.
Pricing, trial and sync
How much is it?
Your first pattern is free, for good. Stitched Off Pro opens every pattern, with every feature and all future updates included. The yearly plan is £14.99 a year. It starts with a 14-day free trial. Lifetime is £39.99 once, and never renews.
How does the free trial work?
The yearly plan starts with 14 days free. Cancel in your store's subscription settings at least 24 hours before it renews and you aren't charged. Lifetime has no trial, but your first pattern is free, so you can try Stitched Off before you pay anything. See Manage your subscription.
Is sync extra?
No. Sync between your devices is included with Stitched Off Pro, yearly or lifetime. There's no extra price for it.
Do I pay again on another device?
No. Buy Stitched Off Pro once. Then sign in with the same account on your other devices, and your purchase is there. It works on iPad and iPhone.
And Android?
Stitched Off isn't on Android yet. When it is, the purchase you have already made will work there too.
Can I share my subscription with my family?
No. Family Sharing isn't offered for Stitched Off Pro, so each person needs their own.
How do I restore a purchase?
If you've reinstalled Stitched Off or moved to a new device, open Settings ▸ Stitched Off Pro in the app and tap Restore purchases. Or sign in with the account you bought Pro with, and it's there. See Manage your subscription.
What happens to my progress if my subscription ends?
Nothing is deleted. Your first pattern stays free and open. Your other patterns are locked: you can't open or stitch them, and they don't sync, but you can still export any of them as a backup file. Subscribe again and they open where you left off. See Back up a pattern.
Privacy and copyright
Are my charts uploaded anywhere?
Only if you use sync. Then each PDF is kept privately in your Stitched Off account, so your other devices can open it: up to 100 MB each and 5 GB in all. Only you can open them, and we never share or sell them. Without sync, your PDFs are kept on your device alone.
What does sync store?
Your patterns, their PDFs and your progress — the stitches you've marked, your parked threads and your notes. They're kept privately in your Stitched Off account, on servers in London, not in iCloud. Sign in on your other device and they're there. See Sync between devices.
I'm a designer. How do I report misuse?
Please use our copyright page. Stitched Off opens only charts people already have. A PDF that syncs is kept private to its owner's account. We never share, sell or find charts.
Devices and switching
Which devices does it run on?
iPad and iPhone.
When is Android coming?
Android is coming soon, by the end of Q4 2026. When it arrives, the same purchase will work there too, and the store buttons on this site will link to Google Play.
Do I need an Apple Pencil?
No. You can mark with your finger or with Apple Pencil, whichever you prefer. See Mark stitches.
Can I move my progress from another app?
Not at the moment: there's no import from other apps. Open the PDF in Stitched Off and mark what you've already stitched — a 10×10 block at a time is quickest. See Mark a 10×10 block.
How do I back up?
With sync on, your patterns and progress are kept in your Stitched Off account as you go. You can also back up any pattern as a single file and keep it wherever you like. See Back up a pattern.
Can I keep track of the threads I own?
Yes. Tick the threads in your box on the Threads screen, and Stitched Off marks the ones you still need to buy and can list them for each pattern. See Keep track of the threads you own.
